Total Permanent Disability
TPD insurance covers serious and permanent disablement if you are unable to work again but does not cover temporary disabilities or many traumas.
It is usually taken out in conjunction with Life Insurance and is usually paid out as lump sum to cover medical expenses, rehabilitation costs and home alteration costs if needed.
Trauma Crisis
Trauma or Critical Illness insurance provides a cash lump sum on the diagnosis of a medical condition. The number of conditions covered varies, basic policies can offer less benefits.
The benefit is paid when diagnosis is confirmed - not when you die of the condition. It provides you and your family with a lump cash sum to use when it is needed most for medical care or to pay the mortgage and other debts to relieve financial pressure.
The most common claims under these policies are for: cancer, heart attack, coronary bypass and stroke, although other conditions can be covered under a comprehensive cover.
